SHAH ALAM, Nov 25 — State executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi visited flood victims at the temporary relief centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan Section 16 here last night.
Arriving at around 8 pm after the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting, he reported that 66 families from Kampung Padang Jawa had been relocated to the centre following heavy rainfall since the morning.
“The district officer has informed us that another PPS at Sekolah Rendah Agama Seksyen 16 will be opened to accommodate the increasing number of flood victims in the area.
“We will ensure that those placed at the PPS receive sufficient food and are housed comfortably while waiting for the floodwaters to recede,” he said.
He also advised residents in high-risk areas to remain vigilant and comply with instructions issued by the authorities.
“If you are instructed to evacuate, please adhere to the directive for the safety of yourself and your family,” he added.
Earlier, the Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari stated that the state administration is closely monitoring the flood situation and has directed executive councillors and relevant agencies to be on the ground to assist victims.
In his adjournment speech at the state assembly yesterday afternoon, he said that an announcement on special assistance for flood victims will be made today, in addition to a special disaster-management briefing to coordinate on-site response efforts more effectively.
As of 8.30 pm, a total of 1,732 victims from 474 families have been placed in 15 PPS, with the sharp increase necessitating the activation of more centres, particularly in Hulu Langat, Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, and Klang.
