JAKARTA, Nov 24 — The Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta has confirmed that there have been no reports of Malaysians affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru on the border of Lumajang and Malang Regencies in the East Java Province.
It advised those planning to travel to major cities or districts near Mount Semeru to monitor the latest developments through the mass media.
“Malaysian citizens should check their travel status with the airlines in the event of any sudden changes involving the airspace situation,” the Embassy said in a statement today.
It is continuing to closely monitor the developments of Mount Semeru, which erupted on Wednesday (November 19).
The Embassy added that Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) is focusing relief efforts on three affected villages: Supiturang and Oro-Oro Ombo in the Pronojiwo district, and Penanggal in the Candipuro district.
The Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry’s Geological Agency has maintained the alert status at Level Four, the highest level, and continues to anticipate the possibility of further eruptions.
“The Lumajang Regency Government had earlier declared a seven-day state of emergency from November 19 to November 26,” the Embassy said.
