SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 — The flood situation in Hulu Selangor is reported to be under control, with close monitoring of all flood hotspots to ensure the drainage system remains in good condition.

Hulu Selangor District Office (Management Services) Chief Assistant District Officer Muhamad Shaharudin Osmin said constant inspections are being conducted, especially in high-risk areas such as Taman Sri Cahaya in Batang Kali.

“The District and Land Office has applied to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to implement immediate mitigation works.

“Among the proposed measures are upgrading the roadside drains along Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Tanjung Malim near Taman Sri Cahaya, which is frequently hit by floods,” he said.

Shaharudin added that requests were also made for works to raise the drainage system level in Kampung Sentosa, maintain drains and waterways in Kampung Rawang Putar, and carry out other related works in Batang Kali.

He stressed that all temporary relief centres (PPS) are in a state of readiness.

“In terms of facilities, we ensure everything is functioning properly, including minor improvements like toilets and lighting,” Shaharudin said.

Emergency and flood drills with the Village Development and Security Committees have also been conducted as part of community preparedness efforts.

“For example, the standard operating procedures for vacating homes and moving to PPS have already been prepared at the district level,” he said.

Shaharudin noted that the district flood operations room will begin operating tomorrow to coordinate actions among all agencies.

“At the agency level, we are constantly updating on any developments. So far, there is no need to open any PPS,” he said.

Currently, over 1,000 victims have been placed in 14 PPS across Selangor following the floods affecting the state.
