Cops bust drug syndicate led by 'Robin Hood’, seize over RM77m in narcotics

‎KUALA SELANGOR, Nov 24 — The police believe they have crippled a drug trafficking syndicate active in the Klang Valley, which is masterminded by a Malaysian, and seized various types of drugs worth RM77.46 million through four raids around Selangor last week.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the suspect, whom he said acted like 'Robin Hood’, was arrested in a raid around Shah Alam, along with five kg of methamphetamine, heroin (300g), base heroin (1kg) and over RM1 million in cash.

The police also arrested eight men, including two foreigners, after raiding a house in Bestari Jaya and a scrap metal godown in Batang Berjuntai, which is believed to have been used for drug processing.

"The raid on the house led to the discovery of Erimin 5 (18g) and methamphetamine (12g), 97 containers believed to be filled with methamphetamine (2,375kg), as well as various drug-processing equipment and machinery at the godown.

"The main suspect is very slick and used the scrap metal business and several other businesses to cover up his operations. We also believe the suspect gained the trust of the community by providing them with jobs and financial assistance,” he said.

Hussein was speaking during the NCID Achievement press conference at the Kuala Selangor police headquarters today.

He noted that the syndicate is believed to have been actively distributing drugs in the Klang Valley area since January 2024, and the police carried out five months of intelligence gathering before moving in, with all the others arrested playing the roles of storekeepers and runners.

The syndicate mastermind has seven previous records involving drugs and crime, while the other suspects, except for the two foreigners, had a total of 19 prior records concerning the same offences.

Hussein said they seized various assets under the Dangerous Drugs Act (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988, with the total forfeiture valued at RM1.26 million.

"The main suspect has been remanded for seven days until November 26, while the other eight suspects have been remanded until November 29,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
