SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 — The number of flood victims in the country continues to rise, with 10,460 individuals seeking shelter across eight states, including Selangor, as of 6am today.
According to the Social Welfare Department's Info Banjir report, Kelantan continues to record the highest number, with 8,235 victims placed in 33 temporary relief centres (PPS) across several districts, including Tumpat, Bachok, Kota Bharu and Pasir Puteh.
In Perak, 921 victims are seeking shelter in 16 PPS, involving the districts of Perak Tengah, Manjung, Larut Matang, Selama and Batang Padang.
Meanwhile, Terengganu reported 369 victims in two PPS in Besut, while Kedah recorded 337 victims in three PPS in Kulim.
In Perlis, six PPS were opened in Padang Besar and Kangar to accommodate 283 victims, while Penang recorded 237 victims in four PPS in Seberang Perai Utara and Seberang Perai Tengah.
Selangor reported 34 victims from nine families placed in one PPS in Sabak Bernam.
In Sarawak, 44 victims were relocated to a PPS in the Miri district following continuous rainfall.
Authorities said close monitoring will continue in high-risk areas, especially locations near rivers and low-lying zones, and advised the public to remain alert to weather warnings and follow safety instructions.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm, heavy rain and strong wind warning for five districts in Selangor, namely Klang, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang, until 10am today.
The same weather conditions are also forecast in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, as well as across Pahang, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term advisory valid for a period not exceeding six hours for each issuance.
