SHAH ALAM, Nov 20 — The state government is set to draft the Iltizam Emas Selangor initiative next year to empower senior citizens’ well-being and increase their productivity.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said the initiative encompasses the Selangor Care Partners programme and the setup of the Rest and Well-being Care Hub.

“This has to be studied comprehensively so guides, incentives, platforms and training provided can ensure senior citizens remain productive and independent,” she said in her 2026 Selangor Budget wind-up speech at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.

Anfaal also said the Kajian Emas Selangor study revealed senior citizens’ awareness of existing programmes is still low due to their level of digital savvy and technological access.

“This situation demands a more personalised approach to ensure information and services reach the intended target groups,” she said, adding that the study showed different needs by gender, with elderly women needing financial counselling and psychosocial support to manage emotional issues, well-being, and daily life.

“In comparison, elderly men tend to need access to education programmes, skills training, and help finding jobs to support their economic continuity and productivity,” Anfaal said.
