SHAH ALAM, Nov 20 — The state government does not intend to increase the rate of disaster assistance given to heads of households, said the state executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi.
He said that up to September this year, nearly RM3 million in flood assistance allocations had been approved to help victims throughout Selangor.
“For 2022, the approved allocation amounted to RM100.1 million, while RM61.4 million (2023), RM1.54 million (2024), and RM2.93 million this year up to September.
“In total, more than RM166 million has been disbursed, with approvals based on applications received from District and Land Offices as the secretariat for district disaster management committees,” he said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session today.
Responding to Kuala Kubu Baharu state assemblyman Pang Sock Tao's query on the amount of approved disaster assistance, Najwan said flood victims receive RM500, while flash flood victims who are not relocated receive RM250.
The families of disaster victims who have died are given RM1,000.
Meanwhile, he said losses due to floods in 2024 were recorded at RM22.6 million, compared with RM13.9 million the previous year.
“Public assets and infrastructure recorded the highest losses at RM13.8 million, followed by residential properties (RM6.6 million), agriculture (RM1.9 million), and vehicles (RM300,000).
“No losses were reported for business premises or manufacturing. For this year, the total losses will only be published in the 2025 Flood Impact Report in the first quarter of next year,” Najwan said.
