SABAK BERNAM, Nov 19 — An MD2 pineapple farm managed under the Kampung Batu 40 Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) has highlighted the great potential of the agriculture sector by generating up to RM100,000 per year in earnings.
Besides fresh fruit, the farm is also able to grow its income by selling seeds, making this 1ha project among the best examples of high-impact farming in rural areas.
Sungai Air Tawar assemblyman Datuk Rizam Ismail, who is also state executive councillor for rural development and unity, said the success of the farm run by “Haji Zul” and “Pak Din” shows how the Agriculture Department’s guidance produces competitive agropreneurs.
He said the federal government’s Sejati Madani programme also plays an important role in supporting community agriculture development efforts.
“The Sejati Madani programme not only helps JPKKs and village heads develop agriculture projects, but also provides modern equipment like drones, tents and other community facilities that strengthen agriculture and community activities,” he told reporters during a visit with the Sabak Bernam District Agriculture Department to the MD2 pineapple farm recently.
He added that the success of the two farmers proves Sabak Bernam is a strategic location for MD2 pineapple farming.
“I urge youth to try their hand at this (MD2) agriculture field, which could potentially become a major income source,” Rizam said.
The MD2 pineapple, which ripens in 12 to 14 months, enjoys stable market demand, while protective techniques such as fruit covers to prevent sunburns help preserve produce quality.
The combination of these factors makes this crop an increasingly important driver of the local economy.
With the support of government programmes and continuous technical guidance, efforts to strengthen Sabak Bernam’s agriculture sector have continued to grow in line with the great potential of high-value crops such as the MD2 pineapple.
