KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 — Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz’s tenure as Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) head will end December 2.
He said his final day in the ministry will coincide with the end of his service in the Dewan Negara.
“My last day in MITI is December 2. So legally, because I’m no longer in the Dewan Negara — and you need to be in either Dewan to serve as a minister — I definitely cannot continue to serve as a minister,” he said at a press conference on MITI’s report card for the third quarter of 2025.
When asked if he would remain in an advisory role, he said there has been no discussion on the matter yet.
“There is no discussion yet, but if there is a need, I have already discussed this with the prime minister and stated my intention to continue to assist.
“We are awaiting the prime minister’s decision. I don’t think the prime minister has made a decision yet about my role after this,” he said.
Tengku Zafrul, who served as senator for two terms from 2020, will complete his six-year tenure in the Dewan Negara on December 2.
