SHAH ALAM, Nov 11 — Data released by the Malaysian Statistics Department (DOSM) plays a vital role in helping the state government design more accurate and sustainable policies and development plans.
State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said its data provides a clear picture, particularly in the manufacturing, services, construction, and agriculture sectors.
“We see that the data collected by DOSM assists Selangor in planning strategies to enhance performance and drive growth in the state’s gross domestic product (GDP).
“To plan the state’s development effectively, sufficient and accurate data is essential, as it reflects the true realities and figures across all sectors,” he said.
Najwan was speaking to Media Selangor after attending the Economic Census 2026 Engagement Session with Selangor state stakeholders earlier today.
He added that the state government is also actively collecting entrepreneur data through the Selangor Platform (PLATS) system to ensure aid and incentives are distributed more equitably and effectively.
“If there are government programmes, grants, or incentives, these can be allocated more efficiently based on the data obtained,” Najwan said.
The councillor noted that accurate data from the business sector is also crucial in boosting foreign investor confidence in Selangor’s potential as a profitable investment hub.
Earlier, DOSM data showed that Selangor recorded an encouraging economic growth rate of 6.3 per cent, surpassing the national average.
This achievement contributed 26.2 per cent to Malaysia’s overall GDP, further strengthening the state's role as a key hub in the nation’s industrial and services sectors.
