DOSM: Services sector revenue up 6.3 pct in third quarter

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 — Malaysia’s services sector revenue increased by 6.3 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) in the third quarter of 2025 (3Q 2025) to reach RM657.7 billion, said the Statistics Department (DOSM).

Releasing its Quarterly Services Statistics today, it attributed this growth to sustained business expansion and positive performance across all segments of the sector.

In a statement today, DOSM said it has divided the different segments which make up the overall services sector.

The segments include wholesale and retail trade; information and communication; transportation and storage; accommodation; food and beverage; professional; real estate; administrative and support services; personal services; other activities; and e-commerce income, among others.

Pooling together the wholesale and retail trade, accommodation, and food and beverage segments, Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said this group collectively recorded a year-on-year (y-o-y) growth of 5.8 per cent in 3Q 2025, higher than 1Q and 2Q 2025, with total revenue reaching RM496.8 billion.

The rise in domestic travel, robust consumer spending bolstered by the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) initiative and higher international arrivals underpinned growth.

The segments comprising information and communication, and the transportation and storage registered a commendable 6.4 per cent y-o-y growth, generating RM91.0 billion in 3Q 2025.

“The (three segments comprising) professional, real estate, and administrative and support services recorded a y-o-y growth of 8.8 per cent in 3Q 2025,” he said.

Quarterly, Uzir said the overall services sector revenue rose by 2.5 per cent versus 2Q 2025, primarily supported by the wholesale and retail trade, food and beverages, and the accommodation segments, which together increased by 2.7 per cent.

DOSM said the overall services sector hiring reached 4.6 million, a 2.4 y-o-y increase.

“Total salaries and wages rose by 4.7 per cent y-o-y to RM34.5 billion in 3Q 2025,” he added.
