KOTA KINABALU, Nov 10 — The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) has decided to withdraw from the Pakatan Harapan coalition with immediate effect, said Upko secretary-general Datuk Nelson W Angang.
He said the decision was made at a special meeting of the Upko Supreme Council today and will be formally communicated to Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and its other component parties.
“After considering our four-year participation in Pakatan and the call of the people of Sabah for the unification of local Sabah parties to begin through this election, the special meeting of the Upko Supreme Council has decided to withdraw from PH with immediate effect,” he said in a statement today.
The Election Commission has set November 29 as polling day for the 17th Sabah State Election, with nomination on November 15 and early voting on November 25.
In the 2020 Sabah state election, Upko contested 12 seats but won only one, Kadamaian, through its president Datuk Ewon Benedick.
