KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 — The remand period for local rapper Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, to assist investigations into the death of a Taiwanese female influencer, has been extended for three days until this Thursday (November 13).
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said this followed the expiration of the initial remand order today.
“The application to extend Namewee’s remand was approved for three days from tomorrow until November 13,” he said in a statement today.
Earlier, it was reported that the musician, who was the last person seen with the Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yun Hsin, was considered important in assisting the investigation and had surrendered himself on Wednesday (November 5).
The 33-year-old was found dead in a bathtub in the bathroom of a hotel along Jalan Conlay on October 22, before her body was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem. The police are still awaiting the complete autopsy and toxicology reports to determine the actual cause of death.
The case, which was initially classified as sudden death, has been reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
In the same investigation, the musician was also detained for possession and use of drugs and was charged in the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court on October 24.
