Death toll from Tino climbs to 224, in the Philippines

MANILA, Nov 9 — The death toll from Typhoon Tino, which submerged large parts of the Visayas, in the Philippines, has risen to 224, the Philippines’ National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported today.

The Philippine News Agency reported that the fatalities include 158 in Cebu, 27 in Negros Occidental, 20 in Negros Oriental, eight in Caraga, three in Capiz, two in Southern Leyte, two in Leyte, and one each in Antique, Bohol, Guimaras, and Iloilo.

The number of missing persons climbed to 109, while 526 individuals were reported injured.

The typhoon has affected 946,660 families or 3,330,315 individuals across 7,269 barangays in eight regions nationwide.

The NDRRMC also reported 74,781 damaged houses across seven regions, as the authorities continue to assess the full extent of Typhoon Tino’s destruction.
