SEGAMAT, Nov 2 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke has described Malaysia’s successful hosting of the Asean Summit 2025 as an outstanding achievement that demonstrates the country’s capability to organise world-class international events.

It drew the attention of global powers and international leaders, reflecting the high level of respect and confidence in Malaysia’s ability as a host.

“This, to me, is a major success that not only showcases Malaysia’s competence in hosting the Asean Summit, but more importantly, highlights the trust and priority given by foreign nations to Malaysia,” he said during a press conference after officiating the Johor DAP State Annual Convention 2025 today.

Loke added that this year’s edition was ‘unprecedented’ as it went beyond the usual Asean member states and its three traditional partners of China, Japan, and South Korea.

“This time, we also received attention from the United States, South American nations like Brazil, North American countries such as Canada, as well as Australia, New Zealand, and the European Union,” he said.

Loke noted that the recognition also reflected growing confidence in Malaysia’s foreign policy and its active role in peace facilitation efforts in Cambodia and Thailand during its chairmanship.

“This is a success that elevates Malaysia’s standing on the global stage, and when our country’s name is held in high regard internationally, the benefits will be long-term for the people,” he said.

Strong ties with major powers would also open new trade doors, including emerging markets such as Brazil and South Africa.

“When we can expand exports globally, it will certainly attract more investments and create more job opportunities, especially in Johor, which is now drawing international attention,” Loke said.

The successful hosting of the Asean Summit also strengthened the public service’s confidence in the stability of the Unity Government, following the period of political uncertainty between 2020 and 2022.

“We have proven that over the past three years, this government has not only survived but has successfully led and stabilised the country,” he said.
