KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 — Floods in Kedah and Perak are receding, with the number of victims being evacuated to temporary evacuation centres (PPS) having declined as at 8pm.
Kedah
The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) announced that 579 victims from 156 families are still housed at four PPS, down from 698 people from 198 families this morning.
“Pendang district recorded the highest number of victims with 503 people from 136 families in three PPS, while in Kota Setar, 76 people from 20 families were still taking shelter in one PPS,” read a JPBN statement tonight.
The PPS in Pokok Sena district, which opened on Saturday, was closed at 10am.
Perak
The JPBN secretariat reported that the number of victims in Manjung district decreased to 129 people from 30 families, with all of them housed at the PPS at SAR Padang Serai, Pantai Remis.
The Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) said Sungai Kinta is at the warning level of 248.16m, compared with the normal level of 243.5m.
