SHAH ALAM, Oct 29 — The Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting will proceed as scheduled from November 14 onwards for two weeks, despite coinciding with the Sabah State Election.

Assembly Speaker Lau Weng San said there is no need to amend the sitting dates as the notice to state assemblymen has already been issued, with the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj having already granted royal assent.

“We cannot make changes because the notice has already been issued to the assembly members, which requires a 21-day period. If it is brought forward, the notice period will be too short.

“We could postpone it, but there is not enough time as the 2026 Selangor Budget, including the Supply Bill, must be passed and gazetted by the first week of December,” he said during an engagement session with media practitioners today.

Lau added that the upcoming session is expected to run later into the evening, beyond the usual 4.30pm, to allow state assemblymen more time for debate.

“This time it will be longer, beyond 4.30pm. We are now in the third year (of the term), so assembly members will be bringing up many public issues that need to be debated.

"Therefore, we expect the proceedings to extend for longer hours,” he said.

The Speaker noted that the issues of public transport, investment, the Visit Selangor Year 2025 campaign, and flood management are expected to be debated during that time.

“Other issues (for debate) include Putra Heights, the Shah Alam Sports Complex redevelopment, and the demand-responsive transit service, which will also draw attention,” he said.

The assembly sitting at the State Secretariat Building's Annexe in Shah Alam will open with the tabling of the state budget by the Menteri Besar on November 14, followed by sittings from November 17 to November 21, and from November 24 to November 27.

Members of the public can follow the live broadcast of the proceedings via selangortv.my and all official Media Selangor platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, Telegram, and the MYTV channel.

The Election Commission has set November 29 as the polling date for the 17th Sabah State Election, with nomination day on November 15 and early voting on November 25.
