KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — The police arrested four men and seized over three million cigarettes with unpaid taxes worth over RM6 million under Op Taring Alpha 1 in Kepong on Sunday (October 26)
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (JKDNKA) director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said the raid was carried out at 6.50am after receiving a tip about the cigarettes.
“The raid was conducted after receiving a tipoff that the cigarettes were being loaded from a six-ton lorry to three vans, a one-ton lorry and a car in the parking area in front of Kepong Commercial Park,” he said in a statement last night.
Checks on the six vehicles led to the arrest of six men, aged 31 to 44, and the seizure of various items, including 3,460,000 cigarettes valued at RM6,228,000, three vans, two lorries, a Hyundai Starex, and eight mobile phones, with a total value of RM9,526,400.
Azmi said the case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967, adding that the success proved the police force’s continued commitment to curbing smuggling and the sale of undeclared items.
“From January 1 to October 26, the Bukit Aman JKDNKA team conducted 218 raids across the country, arresting 394 individuals for various offences… with a total seizures worth RM690.32 million,” he said.
