Asean stronger, more united under Malaysia chairmanship — Singapore PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — Asean has emerged stronger, more united and focused on delivering positive outcomes for its peoples under Malaysia’s steady and thoughtful chairmanship, said Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

“Asean leaders had productive discussions on how we can strengthen our community, enhance economic resilience, and keep our region open and connected amid a changing global landscape,” he posted on social media.

Wong, accompanied by his Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, was among the leaders who attended the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, which ended today.

During a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the summit, Wong said they took stock of bilateral issues and reaffirmed the progress made in various areas of cooperation as the two neighbouring countries celebrate 60 years of diplomatic ties this year.

“I thanked PM Anwar for his warm hospitality, and look forward to reciprocating it at our annual Leaders’ Retreat later this year,” Wong added.

Singapore is scheduled to host the 12th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat in December.
