PUTRAJAYA, Oct 28 — Selangor is empowering the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in improving the integrity of state governance, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He added that mastery of the technology will be strengthened in shaping a smart city without sidelining human values, to the benefit of the people.
“In becoming a smart city, Selangor is making use of AI to guarantee the state’s sustainability and strength. Selangor started with AI but not with machines; with human capital instead.
“We sent delegations to understand AI functions to be adapted to workflows. We must control and master AI instead of having it ride on human lives.
“It is important for us to understand and know the limits of AI use in governance. There is dependence on AI use but it cannot be too dependent, as we would lose the human touch,” he said today at the National Planning Congress, held in conjunction with World Urbanism Day and officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
When met by reporters, Amirudin said Selangor isn’t working in a silo by improving systematic governance via digitalisation, but is enlisting the cooperation of all departments.
He said among the greatest challenges are ways to connect and cooperate with all agencies and departments, but efforts have borne results after a few years.
“The state administration has been transformed with digitalisation such as Smart Parking and the Digital Economy, which all benefit the people and improve skills.
“To build a state administration under a digital ecosystem, (we) cannot work in silos, and must empower humanity along with technological developments,” Amirudin said.
