KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — The police have crippled a drug trafficking syndicate following the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of narcotics worth more than half a million ringgit in a raid at a condominium parking area along Jalan Klang Lama on Saturday (October 25).
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said a team from the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters’ Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) arrested a 47-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman.
“The raid was conducted at about 3.30pm, and a search of a Proton Exora driven by the suspects led to the discovery of 18.5kg of suspected dried cannabis flowers, estimated to be worth RM553,500,” he said in a statement today.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate, believed to have been active since August, had been using the condominium’s parking area as a cover for its drug transactions to avoid detection by the authorities.
Fadil said the syndicate was operating in the Klang Valley area, and the seized drugs were estimated to be enough to supply about 37,000 users.
Initial urine screenings showed that both suspects tested negative for drugs. However, further checks revealed that the male suspect has two prior criminal records under Section 380 of the Penal Code and Section 29 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
“Both suspects have been remanded for six days, from October 26 to October 31, to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and not less than 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction,” he said.
The police also confiscated RM250 in cash under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
Fadil urged the public to share any information on drug trafficking activities by contacting the NCID hotline at 012-208 7222.
