KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 — The flood situation in Perak, Kedah, and Penang remains largely unchanged, with the number of evacuees at temporary relief centres (PPS) rising slightly to 5,850 this morning from 5,788 last night.
In Perak, four districts remain affected by floods, with 2,867 victims from 967 families taking shelter at 28 temporary relief centres as of 8am.
According to the Perak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat, the district of Larut, Matang dan Selama continues to record the highest number of evacuees, with 1,872 people from 640 families sheltering at 19 PPS that have been operating since Thursday (October 23).
In Manjung, 607 victims from 202 families are housed at five PPS, while Kerian has 278 victims from 94 families at three PPS. In Perak Tengah, 110 victims from 31 families are being accommodated at one PPS.
In Kedah, the number of flood victims continues to rise, with 1,934 people from 602 families relocated to 19 PPS as of 9am, up from 1,708 people from 525 families last night. Kubang Pasu is the latest district to be affected, joining six others already impacted by the floods.
The Kedah JPBN reported that Kulim has the highest number of evacuees, with 1,294 people from 372 families taking shelter at nine PPS. This is followed by Baling, with 291 people from 119 families at four PPS, and Pendang with 111 people from 32 families at one PPS.
In addition, Pokok Sena has 102 people from 32 families at one PPS, Sik has 79 people from 25 families at two PPS, Padang Terap has 34 people from 11 families at one PPS, while Kubang Pasu has 23 people from 11 families at one PPS.
Meanwhile, the Public Infobanjir website reported that five rivers in Kedah have exceeded the danger level: Sungai Pendang in Pendang at 3.51m, Sungai Perik in Padang Terap at 14.21m, Sungai Laka in Kubang Pasu at 22.11m, Sungai Titi Kerbau in Pendang at 6.84m, and Sungai Padang Terap in Kubang Pasu at 4.05m.
In Penang, the number of flood victims dropped slightly this morning to 1,049 people from 295 families, who are staying at seven PPS across three districts, down from 1,187 people from 328 families last night.
According to the Social Welfare Department disaster information website, Seberang Perai Utara remains the worst-affected district, with 781 people from 217 families taking shelter at four PPS, while Seberang Perai Tengah has 234 people from 68 families at two PPS.
Thirty-four people from 10 families are still being accommodated at one PPS in the Barat Daya district.
