KUALA LANGAT, Oct 26 — The state government has directed all 12 local authorities to showcase Selangor's identity, including its food, music, clothing and arts, as a domestic tourism attraction.
State executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the directive is in line with the State Executive Council's (MMKN) decision for every agency to highlight the uniqueness of local heritage and culture when receiving visitors.
“Selangor is rich in its own distinctive identity, such as the ronggeng dance, traditional dishes like punten, nasi ambeng, and Kajang satay, as well as Mahmeri and cempuling music,” he said when officiating the Budaya@Komuniti: Pasar Mui Mahmeri 2025 event at the Kampung Orang Asli Craft Centre yesterday.
Borhan added that the initiative would help foster pride in the state’s identity while boosting the local economy by promoting local products.
The councillor also announced plans to organise a national-level Battle of the Band Orang Asli competition next year in collaboration with RTM, which will be broadcast live.
