KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 — The Cabinet meeting today agreed to maintain the current guidelines and practices for organising programmes and distributing contributions to schools nationwide.
The Education Ministry (MOE) said this decision aligns with the Cabinet's decision made on July 24 last year.
"The Cabinet also emphasised that existing practices at school halls managed by the School Management Board (LPS) and private school halls will remain unaffected.
“These practices align with those accepted and implemented by previous administrations, including the previous government," it said in a statement.
One key guideline is that fundraising activities within school premises must not involve or promote alcoholic beverages.
Yesterday, during the Dewan Rakyat sitting, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that the government will not compromise on any event involving the serving of alcohol or activities that contradict educational values within school premises, including after school hours.
His comments followed an incident where an alumni association of a secondary school in Ipoh, Perak, organised an event which served alcohol on September 27.
