KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 — The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) has announced the appointment of Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria as chair of the Ethics Commission of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA), effective yesterday.

It said Mohamad Norza’s appointment to the distinguished position was personally endorsed by ISSA president Prince Abdulaziz Turki Al-Faisal, who is also the president of Saudi Arabia’s Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Sport Minister.

“Mohamad Norza, who currently serves as Vice President of OCA for Southeast Asia Zone, Honorary Life President of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), Honorary President of Badminton Asia and Council Member of Badminton World Federation (BWF) has been entrusted by the ISSA leadership under the presidency of Prince Abdulaziz to chair the newly established Ethics Commission.

“… (this is) in recognition of his extensive experience, integrity and steadfast commitment to the principles of ethics and good governance in sport,” the OCM said in a statement today.

It added that the ISSA is an international sports organisation operating under the umbrella of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Established in 1985, the ISSA aims to promote solidarity, friendship and cooperation among Muslim nations through sports, serving as a platform to strengthen unity and advance the development of sports across the Islamic world.

The newly established ISSA Ethics Commission will be responsible for overseeing all matters related to ethical conduct and governance, ensuring the sustainability, effectiveness, and integrity of the Islamic Sports Movement, particularly the Islamic Solidarity Games, which continues to attract strong participation and interest from all 57 member NOCs of ISSA.

The Commission will also be supported by two distinguished members, OIC Youth and Sports Department head Boubakari Maiga and the Bahrain Olympic Committee's board of directors member Hussa Bint Khalid Al-Khalifa.
