SHAH ALAM, Oct 23 — Many vehicle owners still believe that disposing of an old car must be done manually at the Road Transport Department's (JPJ) counters, involving long waits and stacks of forms.
As a result, some end up abandoning their broken-down vehicles by the roadside or in public parking areas.
However, the vehicle disposal process now takes only about 10 minutes and can be completed entirely from home, faster, easier, and more securely.
JPJ has introduced an online vehicle deregistration system (e-Dereg) that allows owners to deregister their vehicles without visiting a counter in person. Through this system, deregistration can be confirmed via fingerprint verification, making the process faster, safer, and legally valid.
Car Medic Sdn Bhd directors Kwan Kian Heng and Joey Kwan told Media Selangor that the disposal procedure has now been fully simplified. Any owner wishing to dispose of a vehicle can do so online without visiting a JPJ office.
“The owner only needs to contact us to make an appointment and provide basic vehicle details. We will send a technician to the location to carry out an inspection and take photographs to verify the vehicle’s condition,” they said.
The inspection includes checks to ensure the vehicle is not involved in any criminal investigation, blacklisted by JPJ or the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), or still under an outstanding loan.
If such issues arise, the company will guide the owner through the proper legal procedures.
“Once verified as eligible for disposal, we will complete the deregistration directly through the e-Dereg system. The owner simply provides fingerprint verification, and within minutes, the system issues a JPJ Electronic Deregistration Certificate.
“The whole process takes only around 10 minutes; quick, safe, and extremely convenient!” said the Kwans.
They added that after deregistration, Car Medic will tow the vehicle free of charge to the facility for eco-friendly dismantling and issue an Official Certificate of Destruction to safeguard the owner’s rights.
“Not only that, we also offer cash rewards ranging from RM100 to RM1,000, depending on the vehicle’s age, type, and condition,” they said.

Avoid abandoning old vehicles, digital disposal is more eco-friendly
Car Medic urges all vehicle owners not to leave their cars abandoned, as the disposal process has now been fully digitalised and can be managed end-to-end by licensed companies.
“We would like to emphasise that disposal is now incredibly simple; no more worries about complicated procedures, and towing services are provided free of charge.
“If the process is this easy, why take the risk of abandoning your car?” said the Kwans.
They said the e-Dereg system was launched last year by Transport Minister Anthony Loke to simplify the disposal process, protect owners’ rights, prevent the misuse of abandoned vehicles, and curb environmental pollution, while also supporting the state government and local authorities' efforts to address the abandoned-car issue.
“This system truly solves the problem faced by owners who used to spend hours queuing at JPJ. We strongly encourage all owners with old vehicles to make use of this facility,” they said.

JPJ e-Dereg application requirements:
⦁ A fully settled loan: Applicants must ensure that all vehicle loans are cleared and that ownership is entirely in their name.
⦁ Not involved in criminal cases: Vehicles under investigation or linked to criminal activities are ineligible for disposal.
⦁ Not blacklisted: Vehicles blacklisted by JPJ for traffic offences or other issues will not be accepted.
Preview of the Next Edition
While Car Medic has demonstrated a lawful and effective disposal model, the true root of the abandoned-car problem lies not in implementation but in the system itself.
In the next report, Media Selangor will interview state executive councillor for local government, tourism and New Village development Dato' Ng Suee Lim to elaborate on the forthcoming national reform of the vehicle disposal system, which will be jointly implemented with the Federal government.
