KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 — United States (US) President Donald Trump is scheduled to arrive in Malaysia this Sunday (October 26) to attend the 47th Asean Summit taking place in the capital.
Communications Minister cum Madani government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said his attendance was confirmed at Friday’s (October 17) Cabinet meeting.
“Confirmed: Donald Trump will arrive in Malaysia on October 26. The Foreign Affairs Ministry will announce any changes,” he said during a press conference after inspecting the preparations at the International Media Centre and International Broadcast Centre for the 47th Asean Summit at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.
Also present were Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, acting deputy editor-in-chief (News Services) Mohd Shukri Ishak, and deputy editor-in-chief of Economic News Services Azlina Aziz.
Fahmi declined to provide further details about Trump’s first visit to Kuala Lumpur since assuming the presidency for a second term last November.
On Monday (October 20), Trump mentioned for the first time publicly plans to visit Malaysia in the near future but provided no further details.
The 47th Asean Summit, themed 'Inclusivity and Sustainability', will be held from October 26 to October 28, with participation from the top leaders of the 10 Asean member states and key dialogue partners including the US, China, Japan, and India.
