KLANG, Oct 15 — The organisation of the Wasatiyyah Seminar has been described as an essential step in strengthening understanding of balanced Islamic teachings and curbing the spread of extremist ideologies through educators' role as agents of knowledge.
The Selangor Islamic Religious Department's (Jais) Islamic Education Division's Education Management Sector head Muhamad Asmadi Mustakim said the programme aims to raise educators' awareness of conveying Islamic teachings in a moderate and tolerant manner.
“The collaboration between Asatizah Selangor (Anas), Jais and the Klang District Islamic Religious Office (Paid) — now in its third year — serves as a platform to elevate dakwah, strengthen unity, and build a caring and respectful society,” he said.
Speaking to the press during the Klang District Wasatiyyah 2.0 and Curbing Extremism Seminar at the KSL Esplanade Hotel today, Asmadi said an appreciation of the wasatiyyah (moderation) concept is crucial to ensure society is not influenced by extreme ideologies that could disrupt harmony and unity.
Earlier, in his speech, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the values of wasatiyyah must be instilled within the education system to curb the growing threat of extremism among students and undergraduates.
He added that its practice should also be embraced in daily life: encompassing learning, social interactions, and worship, to nurture a knowledgeable and virtuous society.
