SHAH ALAM, Oct 13 — The Aerotrain service at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has now achieved full operational capacity, operating at 100 per cent efficiency since resuming service on July 1.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said the Aerotrain project at Terminal 1 is currently in a two-year Defects Liability Period (DLP), while its mechanical and signalling systems are still in the adjustment phase to achieve complete stability.
“Since operations began until October 8, the Aerotrain service availability rate stood at 99.19 per cent. In fact, during the two most recent weeks, from September 28 to October 3 and from October 5 to October 10, operational readiness reached 100 per cent,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today.
Hasbi was responding to Jerantut MP Khairil Nizam Khirudin's query on the causes of Aerotrain service disruptions and the measures the government has taken to ensure smooth and safe transport at KLIA.
He added that between July 2 and September 30, the Aerotrain system experienced 19 disruptions due to technical issues and human error, including incidents in which passengers attempted to open train doors.
“Continuous improvements are being implemented, and technical officers have been stationed onboard the trains to ensure any issues can be rectified immediately,” Hasbi said.
He said that the government will impose compensation mechanisms on the manufacturer should system failures recur, with penalties of up to RM190,000 per month if stipulated standards are not met.
