NIBONG TEBAL, Oct 11 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat Women has submitted a list of names, including new faces, to the party’s top leadership to be selected as candidates for the 17th Sabah election.
Keadilan Women head Fadhlina Sidek said the list of candidates this time have extensive experience, solid backgrounds, and close ties with the local community.
“Those who have been selected have received a mandate from the party and support from party members, and are undoubtedly candidates who can win the upcoming state election, God willing,” she told reporters here today.
The Nibong Tebal MP said this when met after the Byram Estate Residents Resettlement Project opening ceremony here, which was inaugurated by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Fadhlina, who is also education minister, said Keadilan Women is aiming for 30 per cent of the candidates selected to contest in the election to be women.
“Keadilan Women is setting a 30 per cent target, as is usual. We are very confident that these candidates are those who have worked hard, contributed to the community and society, and are worthy of being nominated as candidates,” she said.
She added that to ensure the party’s nominated candidates win, the entire Keadilan Women’s machinery is in the final phase of preparations ahead of nominations.
“As we know, the Sabah State Legislative Assembly has been dissolved, and the entire women’s machinery, especially Keadilan Women, is making preparations, including helping to ensure the victory of our candidates.
“Our machinery is being prepared and will be mobilised throughout the seats that have been identified for candidates... in terms of support for the candidates, we will give our full support,” she said.
On Monday, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the state assembly dissolved.
The Election Commission will hold a special meeting on October 16 to discuss important dates for the Sabah election.
