SHAH ALAM, Oct 8 — Selangor will expand into rail and life sciences as its next economic frontiers, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He stated that both sectors are crucial to Selangor’s long-term growth and that the state must not be complacent with its past gains.

“Moving forward, we intend to open new fronts in the rail and life sciences sectors.

“These are two areas Selangor has to focus on, one to increase the use of public transportation among our people, and the other to prepare for living as an ageing society,” Amirudin said at the opening of the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2025 today.

He reiterated the state’s high-technology pivot, anchored by the Selangor Integrated Circuit (IC) Design Park and the upcoming Selangor Aero Park near the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), envisioned as a regional hub for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) as well as cargo logistics.

During the opening, the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah graced the launch of Selangor’s Agenda for Green Economy (Sage), a three-volume framework that covers clean energy, circular economy, energy efficiency, and green mobility.

His Highness also launched Speed Selangor, a state policy aimed at streamlining investment approvals across all local councils and reducing the process from 3.5 months to just nine days.

The twin launches were witnessed by Amirudin, State Secretary Dato’ Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin, and Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) group chief executive officer Dato’ Saipolyazan M. Yusop.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Earlier in the ceremony, the Menteri Besar also witnessed the exchange of memoranda of understanding (MOUs) between Air Lestari Sdn Bhd (ALSB), Heliosel, and SmartSel, represented by MBI and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers.
