Geng Captain Praba members face organised crime charges

SEPANG, Oct 8 — Thirteen men were charged in the Sessions Court today with being members of an organised crime group known as 'Geng Captain Praba'.

The accused individuals include M. Lavindran, 27; M. Meganathan, 37; M. Tinesh, 20; K. Utayaragu, 29; M. Thinesh, 31; S. Jeevan, 19; J. Sangaranarayanan, 28; P. Joshua, 35; M. Devindran, 25; M. Nokarju, 29; S. Tivagaran, 22; S. Logeswaran, 26; and D. Vijayakumar, 36.

All were detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).

No plea was recorded after the charge was read to them before Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman, as the offence lies under the High Court’s jurisdiction.

They are charged under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 20 years upon conviction.

According to the charge, the suspects were allegedly members of the Geng Captain Praba at a palm oil plantation along Jalan Mahang in Kampung Sungai Jarom, Jenjarom, Kuala Langat, between December 2023 and September 11, 2025.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Mustafa P. Kunyalam appeared for the prosecution, while ten of the accused were represented by counsel. The remaining three, Meganathan, Sangaranarayanan, and Vijaya Kumar, were unrepresented.

The court denied bail and set November 10 for mention pending the submission of case documents.

Previously, on September 24, it was reported that police had dismantled an organised criminal group through Ops Jack Sparrow, arresting 17 individuals across four states on September 11.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the group is believed to have been active since 2023, engaging in violent crimes like murder and arson.

He noted that the group's violence, including a fatality at Taman Sentosa, Klang, had been widely circulated on social media.
