KULAI, Oct 5 — Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching has urged all parties to strongly support the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission to Gaza, which involved volunteers from the country, as it carried a message of peace and humanity.
She said the government appreciated the spirit and courage of the volunteers who joined the mission in an effort to help the people of Palestine facing suffering due to the prolonged conflict following the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime.
"Those who participated went on a very noble humanitarian mission. I was told that they have all safely reached Istanbul and will return home soon.
"I have no information regarding the taking down of GSF-related sensitive content on social media. On this matter (GSF), let us support them together instead of debating (over it),” Teo told the press after attending the closing ceremony of the Run For The Future 2025, a corporate social responsibility programme, at Hutan Bandar Kulai today.
She was responding to queries on the offensive comments and postings which touched on sensitivities related to the GSF humanitarian mission on social media.
The deputy minister also expressed appreciation to all agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) involved in making the GSF mission a success, as well as the Turkish government for its logistics and diplomatic assistance in ensuring the safety of the Malaysian volunteers.
Teo noted that the spirit of unity and humanitarian values demonstrated through the flotilla mission were in tandem with the principles of Malaysia Madani, which emphasises universal compassion and humanitarian solidarity without borders.
Yesterday, it was reported that the 23 Malaysian volunteers who joined the GSF are expected to arrive home as early as Monday (October 6). They will board the Turkish Airlines from the Istanbul Airport.
The GSF, which involved over 500 activists from 45 countries, sailed towards Gaza as a symbol of solidarity and an effort to break the Israeli blockade, while delivering humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
