KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — The solidarity rally protesting the detention of the humanitarian convoy Global Sumud Flotilla's (GSF) volunteers by Israeli forces will continue tomorrow after Friday prayers at the United States (US) Embassy along Jalan Tun Razak.
Parti Keadilan Rakyat Youth chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said that thousands of participants marched peacefully to the embassy today before handing over a memorandum of protest containing three main demands.
They include pressing for the immediate release of activists detained by the Zionist regime, ensuring the safety of volunteers, and rejecting the proposed reconstruction plan for Gaza by US President Donald Trump, which he said denied the rights of the Palestinian people.
“God be praised (Alhamdulillah), we managed to reach here, but embassy representatives refused to come out to receive the memorandum, so we left it at the guardhouse desk on security grounds.
“I want to emphasise that those who came today are not the immoral Israeli soldiers. We Malaysians are here peacefully to express our sorrow and protest.
"Tomorrow after Friday prayers, we will gather here again to continue these demands,” he said.
Participants, who began assembling from 2pm onwards, chanted slogans like ‘Free Palestine’, ‘Down with Israel’, and ‘Free Sumud Flotilla’ while waving Palestinian flags and carrying placards with the words #breaktheseige, #stand4sumud, and #freepalestine. Passing vehicles also honked their horns in support.
Also present at the rally were Sentosa state assemblyman Gunaraj George, Lembah Jaya state assemblyman Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman, and Kota Damansara state assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim.
Gunaraj said that the participation of people from various communities in the gathering proved that the Palestinian issue is a matter of humanity, not solely religion.
“This is a humanitarian issue — babies are being killed. The GSF mission is only bringing aid, so let them complete their mission to help the Palestinian people and release the volunteers immediately,” he said.
Meanwhile, Keadilan Central Leadership Council member Maszlee Malik said the world must not remain silent over the US' support for Israel.
“We want the world to oppose genocide. To the young people of the US, rise up against your government that colludes with Israel in killing innocent children and civilians in Gaza,” he said.
The GSF mission involves 497 activists from 46 countries, making it the largest humanitarian flotilla ever launched. 27 Malaysians are taking part, including 23 on board vessels and four as part of the monitoring team.
