NILAI, Sept 27 — A nine-year-old boy died this morning after falling into an uncovered sewage pit at a school.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the Nilai district police headquarters received a report on the incident at 11am.
“Preliminary investigations found that at about 9.20am, the victim was seen by a member of the public falling into an uncovered sewage pit while a sports meet was taking place at the school,” he said in a statement today.
Firefighters at the scene retrieved the boy, who was then rushed to the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital, Seremban, but was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.
A post-mortem will be carried out at the Rembau Hospital to determine the cause of death.
Alzafny added that their early findings indicate the incident was an accident, with no criminal elements involved.
He also advised the public not to speculate, as this could disrupt the investigation.
