PM Anwar reaffirms support for Global Sumud Flotilla aid mission to Gaza

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 26 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today expressed strong support for the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission to continue its voyage to Gaza.

Commenting on security threats against GSF, he stressed that the mission must proceed to ensure aid reaches and is delivered to the Palestinian people.

“We still hope the mission continues, and Israel’s cruelty and violence must be stopped now,” he said briefly when met by the media after launching the national-level 40th anniversary celebration of the farmers’ market and the Precinct 4 farmers’ market here today.

The New Arab news portal yesterday reported that several countries had warned their citizens participating in GSF that they were exposed to possible Israeli attacks at any time.

A total of 34 Malaysians joining the GSF mission are currently sailing in international waters near Greece and are expected to enter the yellow zone at any time before reaching Gaza waters at the end of this month.

The Malaysian contingent is part of activists from 45 countries sailing to Gaza to break the blockade of the enclave, resolutely facing various obstacles and threats, including drone attacks.

Malaysia became the first country to recognise the mission through the Prime Minister’s support.

The GSF voyage across the Mediterranean is carrying food, medicine and a message of peace, calling for an end to war and famine as well as demanding the opening of humanitarian corridors to Gaza.
