KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government has approved the installation of high-tech closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems at all Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detention centres and National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) lockups nationwide.
The prime minister said this initiative is part of the government's efforts to enhance the efficiency of enforcement agencies in safeguarding the security of detainees.
In a Facebook post, he said the decision was made during the Special Cabinet Committee on National Governance (JKKTN) meeting, which he chaired yesterday.
“This initiative is a strategic move by the government, in line with the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS), aimed at addressing current challenges faced by enforcement agencies, enhancing security measures, and improving monitoring at detention facilities,” Anwar said.

In addition, the prime minister expressed the government’s strong concern over the repeated incidents of foreign fishing boats trespassing into Malaysia's waters. These incursions not only violate the country’s maritime sovereignty but also result in significant losses of marine resources, negatively impacting the local fishing community and the national economy.
Anwar added that in line with the government’s commitment to protecting national sovereignty, the meeting agreed to address issues related to the country’s waters through strategic cooperation between Malaysia and the countries involved.
"The policy and legal reforms agreed upon today reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring that public services remain responsive to national security needs, while upholding the principles of efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness in public sector governance," he said.
