CYBERJAYA, Sept 25 — The Health Ministry (MOH) aims to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes or vapes as early as mid-2026, said Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
He said the ministry remains committed to implementing the ban but will take a phased approach.
“I hope this can be done by mid-2026. If not, it will definitely be by the second half of next year.
“However, there are many factors to consider. Still, we are determined to ban them,” he said after launching the National Blueprint for Behavioural Insights in Health here today.
Previously, Dr Dzulkefly said that the MOH is in the process of drafting a Cabinet Memorandum on the ban to ensure its thorough and effective implementation.
The ban will be implemented in stages, starting with the prohibition of open system devices, before extending to all types of vapes and products.
In another development, Dr Dzulkefly said the MOH plans to propose an expansion of the Sara Appreciation Aid to include fruits and vegetables to encourage healthier eating habits among Malaysians.
“This is part of a nudging strategy, as we know that certain age groups tend to avoid fruits and vegetables,” he said.
Currently, Sara Appreciation Aid recipients can redeem essential items from 14 categories, including rice, bread, cooking oil, flour, biscuits, instant noodles, beverages, personal hygiene products, cleaning supplies, household goods, medicines, and school supplies.
