KLANG, Sept 27 — A total of 662 foreign nationals living in residential premises at Taman Perindustrian Pulau Indah, Port Klang, were arrested in an integrated operation led by the Selangor Immigration Department (JIM) late last night.
Selangor Immigration director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said the operation, which began at 9.30 pm, saw the inspection of 1,132 foreign nationals.
Among those detained, the largest group were Bangladeshis, with 545 individuals, Myanmar (36), Pakistan (35), Nepal (24), India (10), and nine from Indonesia.
The detainees were found to have violated various sections of the Immigration Act 1959/63, including overstaying, lacking valid permits, and breaching permit conditions. All detainees, aged 16 to 80, were taken to the Selangor JIM headquarters for further checks before being transferred to the Semenyih Immigration Depot.
Khairrul Aminus said such operations would continue to identify and deport foreign nationals who violate immigration regulations, as well as laws under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act 2007.
The operation also raided a third-floor residence in the same area, suspected of being used for prostitution activities. However, the premises, equipped with CCTV, was found empty, likely because the offenders had been tipped off.
The operation involved JIM units from Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, and Selangor, as well as the Selangor Police, Bukit Aman Air Operation Force, and the General Operations Force.
