KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 — The Malaysian Immigration Department detained 38 foreigners and two local employers during three separate raids across the capital yesterday on suspicion of various immigration offences.
Kuala Lumpur Immigration director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said the foreigners comprised 21 Bangladeshi nationals, 13 Indian nationals, two Indonesian nationals, and one each from Nepal and Pakistan, while the two Malaysians were arrested for employing foreigners without valid work permits.
The individuals were detained at a restaurant in Bandar Menjalara, the Bazar Lorong Haji Taib, and a serviced apartment hotel in the Dang Wangi area.
"The violations are under Immigration Regulation 39(b), and Sections 15(1)(c) and 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said during a visit to the location.
Saupee added that all the detained foreigners have been taken to the Kuala Lumpur Immigration depot for further investigation.
The raids were a joint operation involving 20 personnel from the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department and enforcement officers from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
