Three with criminal records arrested after Klang high-speed chase

SHAH ALAM, Sept 19 — An attempt by three men with criminal records to evade a police patrol unit check failed when they were all arrested after a high-speed chase involving five patrol cars in Klang last night.

South Klang district police chief ACP Ramli Kasa said the police initially spotted the vehicle with the three suspects acting suspiciously while on patrol near the Jalan Kebun roundabout in Klang at 11.15pm.

The driver sped away when the officers signalled them to stop.

"A total of five police patrol cars were involved in chasing the vehicle before it was successfully stopped at Bandar Sentosa, Klang, and the three local suspects, aged between 31 and 43, were arrested.

"A further inspection found a long machete and a pair of gloves in the car, which were seized to assist in the investigation," he said in a statement today.

All the suspects have previous criminal records, with the driver having 23 criminal records and 11 drug-related records.

Ramli added that they would be remanded for four days, from today until Monday (September 22), and the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code, Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Members of the public with information about the incident are urged to come forward to the nearest station or contact the South Klang district police headquarters at 03-33762222 to assist in the investigation.
