Police seize untaxed cigarettes worth over half mln

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — The police have detained two Indonesian men and seized untaxed cigarettes worth over RM500,000 in raids conducted in Taman Seri Serdang, Kapar in Klang and Jalan Setia Impian in Shah Alam yesterday.

Battalion 4 General Operations Force (GOF) commanding officer Supt Jafri Muhamad said the raids were conducted between 12pm and 2pm by the Semenyih-based GOF personnel together with the Klang Utara and Shah Alam district police headquarters (IPD), following a tip-off from the public.

"During the first raid, police detained an Indonesian man and seized 440 cartons of untaxed cigarettes, along with a car from the premises. In a separate raid, another Indonesian man was also detained.

"From the second arrest, police seized 260 cartons of untaxed cigarettes, a car, and two mobile phones, with the total value of the seizures estimated at RM532,896.40," he said in a statement today.

Jafri added that the suspects and seized items were taken to the Klang Utara and Shah Alam IPDs for investigation under the Customs Act 1967 and the Immigration Act 1959/63.

He urged the public to continue providing information on any illegal activities to the Royal Malaysia Police to help curb crime continuously.
