Unemployed man charged with father’s murder in Cheras

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — An unemployed man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court today with the murder of his father last week.

Iznan Syahir Mohammad Tasnim, 25, nodded in understanding after the charge was read out to him before Magistrate M.S. Arunjothy. No plea was recorded, as murder cases fall under the High Court's jurisdiction.

He is accused of murdering Mohammad Tasnim Nurdin, 62, at an apartment unit in Bandar Seri Permaisuri, Cheras, at 3.01am on Saturday (September 13).

The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty or imprisonment of not less than 30 years and up to 40 years, and not less than 12 strokes of the cane, if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadia Eleena Jamaluddin Akbal appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.

The court then fixed December 11 for the next mention of the case.

On Saturday, it was reported that the police had arrested a man for allegedly stabbing his father to death, believed to be due to his dissatisfaction over family property issues.
