HULU SELANGOR, Sept 19 — After more than three decades of waiting, a total of 363 former settlers of Felda Sungai Buaya, including their heirs, have finally received the final balance of compensation amounting to RM74.2 million.

This final settlement brings the total compensation paid by developer MJD Bhd to all settlers between 1994 and 2025 to RM375 million, with RM110.5 million disbursed this year alone.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, who officiated the handover ceremony at MJD’s operations office, said the resolution of the long-standing issue was made possible through the cooperation of all parties who worked together to bring it to a close.

Today marks another resolution, achieved not only through the state government’s efforts which I initiated in 2018, but also with the support of MJD, the district land office, and the offices of the Batang Kali state constituency and Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency, including its former representative Datuk Kamalanathan Panchanathan.

“I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to all parties who played a key role in resolving this issue involving 363 settlers, some of whom are now in their 80s and others who have passed away,” he said here today.

When met by reporters after the handover ceremony, Amirudin said the state government will next focus on infrastructure development in Bandar Sungai Buaya.

“We want to see the area developed more comprehensively, with attention given to matters such as the gazettement of land and reserves for facilities like mosques, community halls, and other public amenities.

“We are waiting for the contractors to carry out development assessments, and if there are any constraints, the Menteri Besar’s Office can provide support and assistance,” he said.

Amirudin believes Bandar Sungai Buaya has the potential to be further developed in tandem with the rapid growth taking place in Selangor's northern region.

“The state is also focusing on resolving outstanding issues such as village expansion in Batang Kali and stalled development projects.

“Each area has its own challenges, but I believe with the state government’s intervention and the cooperation of all parties, God willing, we will be able to resolve them."
