Banks offer to defer instalments for Sabah flood, landslide victims

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 — Bank Rakyat is offering to defer instalments for six months for individual and business customers affected by the recent floods and landslides in several districts in Sabah.

Its chief executive officer Ahmad Shahril Mohd Shariff said the facility aims to ease customers’ financial burden and commitments during this challenging period.

"The facility offered encompasses Personal Financing-i, Housing Financing-i, Vehicle Financing-i, Vehicle Hire Purchase-i, Education Financing-i, Micro Financing-i, Pawn Broking-i, and Credit Card-i.

"Bank Rakyat hopes this facility will provide some relief. This proactive measure also aligns with the value of care and compassion in the Malaysia Madani concept," he said in a statement today.

Affected customers may apply via email to bantuanbanjir@bankrakyat.com.my, including their full name, identification card number, affected address, mobile phone number for contact, type of financing, and a copy of a utility bill to verify the customer’s address.

Credit Card-i customers may send their applications to the email kkredit@bankrakyat.com.my, while business customers may visit the nearest business banking centre for assistance.

Meanwhile, AmBank Group is also offering to defer instalments of monthly financing by up to six months to assist individuals and small and medium enterprise (SME) customers impacted by the recent landslide and floods in Sabah and other flood-affected regions.

In a statement today, it said that it is also waiving any incidental or replacement charges for passbooks, cheque books, as well as ATM credit and debit cards.

AmBank Group chief executive officer Jamie Ling said the relief assistance is aimed at alleviating the financial burden of affected customers so that they can focus on recovery and restoring their livelihoods.
