SHAH ALAM, Sept 17 — The state government has identified 1,699.68 hectares (4,200 acres) of land to be developed as a third port on Pulau Carey in Kuala Langat.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said this comprises 1,011.71 hectares (2,500 acres) of seabed land managed by the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) and 687.96 hectares (1,700 acres) of coastal land owned by Yayasan Selangor.

The details will be finalised within a month before a proposal is submitted to the Transport Ministry to select a developer.

Noting that the state government will play an active role in both developing and managing the progress of the Pulau Carey Port, he said the project is a major catalyst for Selangor's growth over the next 20 to 30 years.

"This initiative will provide the state with a sustainable long-term revenue stream. Furthermore, it offers new potential for PKNS as a key driver of the state's economic development.

“It will also strengthen the financial position of Yayasan Selangor, enabling it to continue its mission of funding educational and state institutions," Amirudin said after witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between PKNS and Yayasan Selangor today.

He added that PKNS will act as the state government's representative to hold the shares and ownership rights to the new port.

"The difference with the Third Port and Port Klang is that we will have active participation and involvement in terms of both the construction and its operation," Amirudin said.

Meanwhile, today's MOU formalises a cooperation between PKNS and Yayasan Selangor to plan a new, sustainable, and competitive development on the latter's land in Pulau Carey for the proposed Third Port.

This strategic initiative also includes assessing suitable and viable joint-venture business models, as well as outlining the development terms for the next phase.

At the signing ceremony, PKNS was represented by its group chief executive officer Datuk Mahmud Abbas and Yayasan Selangor by its chief executive officer Raja Nazirin Shah Raja Mohamad.
