KUANTAN, Sept 14 — A worker was reported trapped in a rockfall at a quarry in Ulu Gali, Sungai Ruan, Raub, yesterday.
Raub police chief Supt Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman said the victim, Mohammad Fazrul Illahi Ab Rahman, 30, from Tanah Merah, Kelantan, was operating an excavator when he was struck by falling rocks from a nearby hillside at 12.50pm.
“The victim is believed to have jumped out of the machine he was operating before being struck and buried by rocks. The affected area is estimated to cover a radius of 300 metres, while the depth is still unknown,” he said in a statement today.
Three other foreign workers escaped with minor injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Raub Hospital.
The search and rescue (SAR) operation involving the police, the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), and several other agencies faced difficulties yesterday due to ongoing ground movement at the site.
“The Fire and Rescue Department has requested the assistance of the K9 Unit, which is expected to begin searching for the victim today. The SAR operation on the first day was halted at 7.30pm due to darkness,” Shahril said.
He said the SAR operation resumed at 8am today.
