KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 — Police arrested seven men, aged between 15 and 50, in connection with the commotion that occurred during an eviction operation on 37 terrace houses in Kampung Sungai Baru here on Thursday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said six of them are under remand while another has been charged in court.
“He pleaded guilty and has been released after paying a fine of RM1,500. Police will apply for an extension of remand for the other suspects to continue investigations. Some of those arrested have criminal records for housebreaking and others,” he told a press conference here last night.
Fadil said that so far, three investigation papers have been opened under Sections 186, 353 and 324 of the Penal Code.
He added that the investigation revealed the suspects were not residents of Kampung Sungai Baru, but rather believed to be leaders and members of a group.
He said police are tracking down several more suspects in connection with the case and could make more arrests.
“We ask for public cooperation, especially those with videos of the incident, to share the video with police to help the investigation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fadil said Dang Wangi police chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman, who suffered a head injury in the incident, was reportedly fine after receiving outpatient treatment.
