PUTRAJAYA, Sept 12 — The Finance Ministry (MOF) has exempted essential food items such as chicken, eggs and meat, as well as animal feed and raw soybeans, a key component in animal feed production, from the Sales and Service Tax (SST) to ensure price stability.

The decision to “zero-rate” the tax on these items was made based on the industry’s feedback that soybeans are a primary input in animal feed production, the ministry said in a statement today.

“The MOF also noted media reports on the implementation of the SST on raw materials used in animal feed production. For other raw materials used in animal feed formulations, the issue is currently being studied in detail, including via engagement sessions and technical reviews with relevant stakeholders,” it said.

The Madani government remains committed to ensuring a fairer and sustainable tax policy that supports the competitiveness of the country’s livestock sector, the MOF statement added.
