Selangor growth agenda based on whole-of-govt, whole-of-society idea

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — Selangor will continue fortifying its competitiveness through a whole-of-government, whole-of-society approach that emphasises the pooling of the state’s strengths, encompassing the roles of government, institutions, and people.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the approach champions the integrated implementation of development policies and initiatives, directly benefiting and ensuring sustainability for the people’s well-being.

“This was a useful approach when we were facing the Covid-19 pandemic, not just the government, but society as a whole as a group that championed and led this matter.

“At this time, our responsibility is greater. How to ensure the entirety of society and government can be mobilised and included,” he said at the wind-up of the 2026 Selangor State Budget engagement session at the Sime Darby Convention Centre here today.

Amirudin said the approach is important to standardise policy implementation at various levels, including licensing, local authority management, and development funding.

He added that every district, municipal and city council has different financial capacities and revenue, thus they need coordination methods to ensure their roles can be optimally beneficial.

“I feel the full use of this strength is much needed in management so each policy and responsibility can be implemented with more effectiveness and directly impact the people,” he said.

“This state will keep trying to fix, change our approaches and boldly take steps that are painful and bitter to fix a situation, and admit if there are any errors or things we need to fix, because today we live in a very different society,” Amirudin said.
